Dr Leonard Mizzi is Head of Unit at the European Commission, Directorate-General (DG) for International Cooperation and Development - Rural Development, Food Security and Nutrition.
Prior to this, he was Head of Unit at DG Agriculture and Rural Development. Initially in charge of agri trade and development, Dr Mizzi went on to lead the inter institutional unit, liaising with the European Parliament, European Council and consultative bodies, and steering the Civil Dialogue Groups.
He is a graduate in Public Administration from the University of Malta. He also has a Master of Science degree from CIHEAM-Montpellier, and a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading.
Dr Mizzi was a visiting lecturer at Boston University (Brussels campus), the Open University and Malta University. He often lectures at the College of Europe in Bruges.
His areas of specialisation are global food security governance, agriculture, and food and nutrition security in the Mediterranean and Sub Saharan Africa.
